Why Alberta? Inside Zyra's Two Distillery Partnerships

Every bottle of Zyra is proudly distilled in Alberta, Canada, through partnerships with two craft distilleries: Hansen Distillery and The Fort Distillery. The location isn’t incidental. It shapes the vodka.

Grain That Starts the Story

Zyra Vodka starts with Alberta-grown triticale grain, a hybrid of rye and wheat suited to the province’s growing conditions. Sourcing locally means shorter supply chains and closer control over what actually goes into the mash before it ever reaches the still.

Two Distilleries, One Vodka

Hansen Distillery and The Fort Distillery each bring their own technical expertise to Zyra’s signature 30x distillation method, refined over small batches rather than mass production. Splitting production across two dedicated Alberta partners is what lets Zyra claim both scale and consistency without losing the small-batch character that makes the vodka distinct.

Small-Batch, On Purpose

Distilling in small batches with dedicated partners means every run gets more attention: tighter quality control, more room to refine the process, and a final product that tastes the same regardless of which distillery ran the batch.

An Underserved Niche in Alberta

Zyra was created after its founder identified an underserved niche in the province’s spirits market: bold, flavour-forward vodka that still felt genuinely local. The initial lineup — Zyra Gold, a premium vodka distilled 30 times; Coco Mist, a pineapple coconut vodka; and Root Beer Rush, an all-natural root beer vodka — was built around that gap.

“From the beginning, our goal was to create an Alberta brand that delivers flavours people have been looking for while supporting local manufacturing and building strong partnerships within the hospitality industry,” says Zyra’s founder.

Craft With a Postal Code

“Craft” gets used loosely in spirits marketing. For Zyra, it means something specific: Alberta grain, two Alberta distilleries, and a process built around quality over volume. That approach has already earned Zyra retail distribution through seven North Central Alberta Co-op Liquor locations, along with hospitality partnerships with Oilers Entertainment Group for events at the Outdoor Fan Park and the Edmonton Convention Centre, plus Edmonton venues including Public Exchange, Bower, 101 Club, and O’Byrne’s Irish Pub.
